A little more about this project
The Liana Trust is launching an initiative to foster deeper connections between people and their natural environment, in the form of nature clubs.
The goal
The nature clubs will offer opportunities for children, youth, and adults who are interested in nature to explore and further understand their environment, ultimately encouraging broader community involvement in conservation efforts.
How?
Through events and activities like workshops, talks and walks by experts (based on the topic at hand), the nature clubs will go beyond serving as educational forums and culminate in the members actively identifying gaps/issues and facilitating projects in order to address them.
The Liana Trust envisions the nature clubs as vibrant hubs of learning, collaboration and empowerment, quipping its members with the tools, knowledge and agency to effect tangible change in their communities.
An example of the events/activities
The Liana Forest Farm shares space with a large lake that offers a prime opportunity for nature learning - and you can trust The Liana Trust to maximise it!
Using this as an example, here’s how a lake-centred activity would be structured:
Providing context and educating the clubs’ members: Workshops, talks and walks that will highlight concepts like a lake’s biodiversity and invasive species
Practical activities that incorporate knowledge-building: testing the lake’s water quality, conducting a needs assessment of the lake and identifying root causes of existing issues (such as reasons behind suboptimal water quality and identifying invasive species that are smothering native biodiversity)
Empowering them with actionable steps: creating campaigns to tackle these issues and facilitate change
How you can help
The Liana Trust is looking for support in the form of:
Funds to support the cost of equipment that the activities will require
Volunteers who would like to share skills and knowledge with the community through workshops.
