A little more about this project
The Intertidal Biodiversity of India (IBOI) is an exciting project that's all about uncovering the secrets of intertidal biodiversity hiding in plain sight.
The current situation:
There's currently barely any data on India's intertidal biodiversity - and understanding the kind of life that resides in our waters is crucial in order to appreciate the life that lives along our coasts.
That's a fundamental step before we can help them not just survive in a changing climate but also protect them from the effects of urbanisation.
How CCF is addressing this:
By collecting citizens' data contributions on India’s intertidal biodiversity and even sharing their own on iNaturalist.org (iNat), CCF is aiming to make it easier for the larger public to access all of this information and appreciate the intertidal life that lives alongside us.
As of now, the project has collected a whopping 16,465 observations made of 1,414 species, thanks to the contributions of 450 people from all coastal states of India, including the islands of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep.
Since there's no baseline data for intertidal marine biodiversity, this data can be downloaded and used by students, researchers, and educators to learn more about the marine ecosystem. All observations uploaded to iNaturalist are licensed under Creative Commons, so it's legal to use the data for non-commercial purposes.

Your support will help CCF expand their work to the coasts of India and continue making this critical data about our coastal biodiversity more accessible to the general public.
